Did You Know? A Snail Can Sleep for 3 Years!
If the weather isn't right, a snail can take a nap that lasts up to three whole years!
A Snail Can Sleep for 3 Years! 🐌
Imagine sleeping for three entire years — that’s what snails can do!
When the weather is too dry or too cold, snails go into a deep sleep called estivation (in heat) or hibernation (in cold). They seal themselves inside their shells with a layer of mucus that hardens like a door, protecting them until conditions improve. When the weather gets nice again, they wake up hungry and ready to munch on leaves!
Slow & Steady Art Time 🎨
Color a snail hiding inside its shell during a rainstorm. Ask your kids: “If you could sleep for 3 years, what’s the first thing you’d do when you woke up?”
Fun fact bonus: Snails have about 14,000 teeth! They’re tiny and on their tongue! 🦷
