Did You Know? The North Pole Sits on Sea Ice!

The North Pole is in the Arctic Ocean, so the ground there is floating sea ice instead of solid land.

The North Pole Is Not on Land! ❄️

When people imagine the North Pole, they often picture a snowy piece of land. But the North Pole is actually in the Arctic Ocean.

That means the surface there is sea ice - frozen ocean water floating on top of the sea. The ice can move, crack, grow, shrink, and drift with winds and currents. It is very different from the South Pole, which sits on the land of Antarctica.

So the North Pole is more like a frozen ocean neighborhood than a regular continent. Geography has some very chilly surprises!

Arctic Map Art 🎨
