Bamboo is actually a kind of grass, not a tree. Certain bamboo species can shoot upward so quickly that they may become noticeably taller in a single day. Warm weather, water, healthy roots, and the right species all matter.
Not every bamboo grows at record speed, of course. But the fast-growing kinds are a wonderful reminder that plants can be full of surprises.
