Fire Trucks Were Pulled by Horses! 🐴🚒
Before motorized fire trucks existed, fire engines were pulled by teams of strong horses!
These weren’t just any horses — they were specially trained to respond to the fire bell. When the alarm sounded, the horses would run to their positions, the harnesses would drop down onto them, and they’d gallop to the fire at full speed. The horses were treated like heroes and were so loved that when fire departments switched to motorized trucks around 1920, many firefighters were sad to see them go!
Heroic Art Time 🎨
Color a team of brave horses pulling a shiny red fire wagon through town! Ask your kids: “If you were a fire horse, what would your name be?”
Fun fact bonus: Dalmatians became fire station dogs because they got along great with horses and would run ahead of the wagon to clear the road! 🐕🦺
