The First Car Was Slower Than a Bicycle! 🚗
Next time you ride your bike, know this: you’re going faster than the very first car ever made!
Karl Benz invented the first real automobile in 1886 — the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. It had a tiny engine and a top speed of about 10 mph (16 km/h). A regular bicycle can easily go 15 mph. The first car also had only three wheels and no roof!

Fun fact bonus: The first speeding ticket was given in 1896 to a man going 8 mph (13 km/h) in a 2 mph (3 km/h) zone! 🎫
