Did You Know? Tiny Ocean Life Helps Make Earth's Oxygen!

Tiny ocean plankton are so small you may not see them, but they help produce about half of Earth's oxygen.

Tiny Ocean Life Helps Us Breathe! 🫧

Trees are wonderful oxygen makers, but they are not working alone. Tiny ocean life helps make about half of Earth’s oxygen.

Much of that oxygen comes from photosynthetic plankton - tiny drifting organisms, algae, and bacteria that use sunlight. Many are too small to see without special tools, but together they do a giant job in the ocean’s sunny surface waters.

Scientists also remind us that ocean life uses oxygen too, so the oxygen story is always moving and changing. Still, it is amazing to think that some of the smallest living things help with something as big as breathable air.
