More Stars Than Grains of Sand! ⭐
Next time you’re at the beach, grab a handful of sand and think about this: there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on ALL of Earth’s beaches!
Scientists estimate there are about 100 to 400 billion stars in our galaxy alone, and there are at least 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe. That adds up to roughly 700 sextillion stars (that’s a 7 followed by 23 zeros!). Meanwhile, there are “only” about 7.5 quintillion grains of sand on Earth.
Starry Art Time 🎨
Fill an entire page with stars — as many as you can draw! Ask your kids: “How many stars do you think you can see with just your eyes at night?” (The answer: about 2,500!)
Fun fact bonus: Many of the stars you see at night might not exist anymore — their light has been traveling for so long that the star may have already died! 🌌
